This type was struck in copper-nickel at the Bern mint since 1879, with a few interruptions during the world wars and a period 1932-41, when the coin was struck in pure nickel. The "B" mintmark was deleted for 1970-85. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.

Recorded mintage: 27,016,400 plus 6,300 proofs.

Specification: 3 g, copper-nickel, 19.15 mm diameter, plain edge.
