Switzerland 1992 1000 francs Fr-514a
This specimen was lot 3420 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Zurich. 1,000 Franc, 1992. NGC PROOF-69. Shooting festival commemorative for the competition in Dielsdorf. From a mintage of only 175 pieces and the lowest mintage commemorative of this denomination. Attractive surfaces with a design sporting extensive frosting all of which is intact and showing no breaks or flecks. Contrasting nicely are the flashing brilliant fields. Housed in an older generation NGC holder." This shooting festival token had a nominal face value during the festival which ended once the festival was over. However, as it continues a old tradition of such pieces, the series (in gold and silver) remains popular and is mentioned in Friedberg and the SCWC Unusual World Coins. This one, the ninth in the modern series, is accompanied by a silver fifty francs (KM XS40).
Recorded mintage: 175.
Specification: 26 g, 0.900 fine gold, .752 troy oz AGW.
