This type has been struck at the Bern mint since 1879. Production was interrupted during the two world wars but is still going as of 2024. For 1970-85, the "B" mintmark was deleted from the reverse. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.

Recorded mintage: 30,350,000.

Specification: 3 g, copper-nickel, 19.1 mm diameter, plain edge.
