Sincona sale 26, lot 3935

This specimen was lot 3935 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$432 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"5 Franken 1952. FDC. Kabinettstück. Erstabschlag (Switzerland, five francs of 1952, uncirculated, cabinet toning, specimen strike.)"

This type was struck at the Bern mint 1931-69. The design is still in use today tho the coin is now copper-nickel. Many of the dates from the twentieth century are very common but this one is scarce. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.

Recorded mintage: 155,000 plus specimen strikes.

Specification: 15 g, 0.835 fine silver, .402 troy oz ASW, 31.45 mm diameter, lettered edge; this specimen 14.98 g.
