This type was struck in 2016 along with one and two kronor in Finland and Utrecht. They are likely to be the last coins struck for circulation in Sweden, as the whole of Scandinavia has gone virtually cashless. The mint in Eskilstuna, Sweden, was privatized and sold to a Finnish company in 2002, which closed the facility and moved production to Finland in 2008. In late 2024, the company announced that it would terminate operations in 2025 upon completion of its existing contracts. At that time, it was the sole producer of coins for Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
