Sweden 1921-W 25 ore
This specimen was lot 1113 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $36.30. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Gustaf V. 1907-1950. AR 25 Öre. Stockholm mint. Karl-August Wallroth, engraver. Dated 1921 W. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Choice uncirculated. Scarcest date of this type." The spike in silver prices after World War One forced many countries to reduce or eliminate the metal from their coinage. Sweden interrupted her issue of billon twenty-five öre (KM 785) to issue this nickel bronze coin in 1921. The ten and fifty öre were also affected. The billon type was resumed in 1927.
Recorded mintage: 1,354,656.
Specification: 2.4 g, nickel bronze, 17 mm diameter, this specimen Ø17 mm, 2.40 g, 12h axis.
