Sumatra 1787 3 kepings
This specimen was lot 2082 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "SUMATRA: AE 3 keping, 1787/AH1202, East India Company issue struck at the Soho mint, Birmingham, England, PCGS graded AU58, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." The British East India Company held trading stations on the island of Sumatra for decades prior to the Napoleonic Wars. The SCWC shows a 1787 two kepings (KM 258) but no 1787 for the one keping (KM 257.1) or three kepings (KM 259.1) but this example demonstrates their omission. Restrikes of this type exist in gold and gilt bronze.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.
Specification: copper.
Catalog reference: KM-259.1 (unlisted date), Prid-7.
