This specimen was lot 53395 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $5,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Suiyuan. Fen, Year 38 (1949). PCGS EF-40 Gold Shield. A RARE and seldom encountered issue, this type was struck from recycled brass ammunition cartridges. A highly interesting and engaging relic from the revolutionary period." The province of Suiyuan is now part of Inner Mongolia. The Nationalist army in the province issued one fen and five fen only, both rare.
