This specimen was lot 1144 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 9,000 CHF (about US$10,924 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE | Strassburg/Strasbourg, Stadt (Elsass/Alsace). Dukat o. J. (um 1682), Strasbourg. Mit veränderter Vorderseitenumschrift: DUCATUS/CIVITATIS/ARGENTI/NENSIS. Äusserst selten. Nicht mehr als 2-3 Stücke bekannt. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC AU58. (France, city of Strasbourg, undated ducat, Strasbourg, with reengraved legend. Extremely rare. Not more than 2-3 coins known. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
This coin is attributed to 1680 in Friedberg. The SCWC number 424.2 is crossed over to Friedberg B237 (no such number exists) and is attributed to 1650. We will follow the auctioneers here. The ducat actually issued in 1650 (Fr-237) has a straight inscription for "DUCATUS/CIVITATIS/ARGENTI/NENSIS" and the legend "·GLORIA:IN: EXCELSIS:DEO·" starts on the right, not the left.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.47 g.
