This specimen was lot 75705 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 5 Cents, 1896. London Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-62. Verging on Choice in terms of surface quality, this lustrous little minor displays bright silver gray surfaces with a hint of sepia patina. Endowed with an exceptionally bold strike, it is a very solid representation of the date and type." The type was struck in 1871-1901 and many dates are common.
Recorded mintage: 960,000, a common date.
