This specimen was part of lot 35047 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), which sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "South Africa: Pair of Certified Elizabeth II gold Proof Pounds 1956 NGC, 1) 1/2 Pound - PR68 Cameo, KM 53. AGW. 0.1177 oz. 2) Pound - PR67, KM 54. AGW. 0.2355 oz. Both are luminous gems with a stout golden glow from each." This type was minted in small numbers 1953-60 but as all are in collector's hands, it obtains little premium.

Recorded mintage: 560 proofs.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .117 troy oz AGW.
