Sincona sale 102, lot 5457

This specimen was lot 5457 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$1,055 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Solothurn. Stadt und Kanton. Vierer 1564, Solothurn. Selten. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, vierer or half kreuzer of 1564, Solothurn mint. Rare, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1549-57 and 1564-66. One thaler was sixty kreuzer in the early sixteenth century, later to rise to 72 kreuzer.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.6 g, billon, 17 mm diameter, this specimen 0.61 g.
