This specimen was lot 31174 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "Solomon Islands: British Colony. Elizabeth II gold Proof "Battle of the Coral Sea" 100 Dollars 1992 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. Estimate[d] mintage: 500. A fitting issue in the Second World War series, this piece memorializes the 50th anniversary of the historic Battle of the Coral Sea, taking place between Australia, New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. This coin incorporates the façade of an aircraft carrier, commemorating the first time aircraft carriers of opposing nations engaged each other. Technically near perfect and tied for finest among four others registered at NGC. From the Paramount Collection." The Solomon Islands (actually, its contracting mint) produced and sold an extensive series of WWII commemoratives. For 1992, we note KM 35 (copper-nickel $1), 35a (silver $1), KM 41 (copper-nickel $1), 41a (silver $1), 36, (gold $10), 42 (gold $10), 37 (gold $25), 43 (gold $25), 38 (gold $50), 44 (gold $50) and 45 (gold $100).
