Slovakia 1994 500 korun
This specimen was lot 72461 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "SLOVAKIA. 500 Korun, 1994. NGC MS-69 Ultra Cameo. Commemorating the Slovensky Raj National Park. This nearly flawless example presents a stunning cameo effect, with sharp contrast between the luminous fields and richly frosted devices." Slovakia, long a part of the kingdom of Hungary, was joined with Bohemia and Moravia as the republic of Czechoslovakia in 1918 in the aftermath of World War One. After many vicissitudes, including forty years of Communist rule, the Slovaks obtained a divorce from the Czechs in 1993 and began their own career as a independent country. This NCLT honors the Slovensky Raj National Park.
