Singapore 1990 500 dollars KM-76
This specimen was lot 4230 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$679 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"500 Dollars 1990. Jahr des Pferdes. Polierte Platte. Mit Originaletui. (republic of Singapore, five hundred dollars of 1990, year of the horse. Proof, with original box.)"
This specimen was issued by Singapore as part of a series of half ounce gold coins featuring the Chinese zodiac. The series ended with the year of the monkey in 1992. Singapore, today an independent city-state, was until 1948 part of the British colony of the Straits Settlements. It left the Federation of Malaysia in 1965 and commenced coinage in 1967.
