This specimen was lot 30567 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $26,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bewitching 2 Ducats of Emperor Matthias II, POLAND. Silesia (Breslau/Wroclaw). 2 Ducats, 1611. Matthias II. PCGS MS-62. Obverse: Crowned and armored bust right, wearing Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece and ruffled collar; Reverse: Garnished square-topped coat-of-arms surmounted by crowned and crested helmet. A VERY RARE and seldom seen issue, this tantalizing gold striking offers an immense degree of lustrous brilliance that shimmers and enchants the eye. Furthering its appeal that much more is a razor sharp strike and tremendous preservation, as is indicated by its nearly-choice designation. A tremendous opportunity for a coin with tie-ins to the Holy Roman Empire, Germany, Hungary, and Poland, and one that should not escape the connoisseur of gold RARITIES of the world. From the Augustana Collection." Altho this coin is filed under Breslau both by Friedberg and the SCWC, we have placed it under Silesia, as it was an issue of the emperor, not the bishop of Breslau. Friedberg mentions single ducats up to quintuple ducats struck with this design, including some klippes.
