Seychelles 1951 25 cents
This specimen was lot 52585 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "SEYCHELLES. 25 Cents, 1951. London Mint. George VI. PCGS PROOF-66. A wonderful and elusive proof issue, examples of this date in proof seldom enter the marketplace, with this example being the first example we can find trading in some time. This example delivers a nearly flawless appeal, with crisply struck details and delicate reflectivity throughout the surfaces. A most beautiful piece that is certain to appeal to any specialist." This one year type is somewhat scarce; the proofs are rare. It replaced a silver coin struck 1939-44 and was superseded by an issue of 1954 for Elizabeth II.
Recorded mintage: 36,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 2.8 g, copper-nickel, 19 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-9.
