Serbia, after a brief period of independence before World War One, became part of the kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1919. After World War Two, Tito formed the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and ruled it until his death in 1980. Yugoslavia broke up in 1991 amid war and massacre. Authoritarian rule in Serbia was not overthrown until 2006 but uneasy relations with her neighbors persist. This type was struck for circulation in Serbia 2005-11. Later dates exist. The Krusedol monastery is depicted. As of August 2023, US$1 = 107.5 dinars, making this coin worth about US$0.05.
