PMG Very Fine 20. 1 of 20 $10 Plain Backs recorded on this suburban Los Angeles charter by the National Bank Note Census. Graded without comment by PMG."
This specimen was lot 17989 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $1,437.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pasadena, CA - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 628 The Security NB Ch. # 10167. Not a rare bank, but hardly common in this grade either. Extremely Fine. Purchased from Jim Sorn in 1998."

Pasadena, California. $5 1929 Ty. 1. Fr. 1800-1. The Security NB. Charter #10167. Choice Very Fine. A great item which although seen with a population of over fifty known small examples, is among the finer available with most being Fine grades or worse. This bright VF note shows with exceptional detail and inks with large margins. Bordering on the EF grade and a note which has not been offered publicly of this quality for over 10 years."

Located roughly northeast of Los Angles, the city of Pasadena is one of a number of bedroom communities in Greater Los Angeles. Served by eight National Banks during the National Banking Era notes from here aren't scarce, but are avidly collected at the hands of many collectors who feverishly pursue Nationals from Southern California."
