This specimen was lot 30704 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "James VI Ryal of 30 Shillings 1571 XF45 NGC. Also known as a Sword Dollar, and without the Thistle re-valuation mark of 1578, this broad example presents bold, original details and evenly-toned surfaces in a delectable shade of steel-gray. Light ghosting is visible on both the obverse and reverse which further adds to the interest of this offering. Altogether a very pleasing coin, scarce in grades above VF, and well-deserving of a strong bid." Davenport lists this type for 1567-71 and the specimen shown in his catalog displays the countermark.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: S-5472, Dav-8463.
