This specimen was lot 37381 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Copper Penny, ND (1460-88). Issued by Bishop James Kennedy of St. Andrews. James III. PCGS VF-20. Ecclesiastical issue. 'Crux pellit' type. Obverse: Orb with rosette at center; Reverse: Cross within tressure of four arcs, stars in angles. From the Richard August Collection." The name derives from the reverse motto, "CRVX PELLIT OIE CRIM", meaning, "The cross drives away all sin".
