Sincona sale 94, lot 3196

This specimen was lot 3196 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$970 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schwyz, Angster 1815, Schwyz. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Randausbruch. (Switzerland, canton of Schwyz, angster of 1815, Schwyz mint. Very rare date, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Edge chipped.)

(In their work on the die varieties of the copper coins of the canton of Schwyz (Numis-Post 9/2019-1/2021), Stefano Cagno and Fabio Luraschi were only able to find one die combination for the 1815 issue, just like with the Angster of 1813 (No. 334). The piece in question shows a strong die break exactly where the edge break is on our example, which explains the misshapen planchet very well. We will pay more attention to this 1815 issue in the future.)"

This type was struck 1810-16, 1821, 1827, 1838 and 1843-46. The common dates are 1843 and 1846. Numista says 200 angster made a franc.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.6 g, copper, 14 mm diameter, this specimen 0.34 g.
