Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp 1702 1-1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 2167 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 5,000 CHF (about US$5,967 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, Herzogtum, Friedrich IV. 1694-1702 1 1/2 facher Taler 1702. Tönning Auf seinen Tod. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. NGC AU58. (Germany, duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, Frederick IV, 1694-1702, 1½ thaler of 1702, on the king's death. Very rare, Extremely fine, Attractive patina.)"
This very rare type was accompanied by a rare single thaler (KM 180) and various minors. The deceased duke Frederick was also king of Denmark. If the reported weight is correct then this coin is a triple thaler, not a 1½ thaler.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 43.9 g, silver, this specimen 81.41 g.
