Sincona sale 91, lot 3420

This specimen was lot 3420 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$529 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schaffhausen, Taler 1620, Schaffhausen. Gutes sehr schön. Leichte Prägeschwäche, hübsche Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Schaffhausen, Schaffhausen mint. Good very fine, Slightly weakly struck, nicely toned.)"

This thaler was struck 1620-23 and is likely the most available thaler from this canton. The city arms depict an ibex leaping, sometimes by itself or out of a castle window (as here).
