Saxony 1836-G thaler Dav-872
This specimen was lot 5885 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,670 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August II. 1836-1854. Konv.-Taler 1836, G. R Prachtvolle Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1836-54, convention thaler of 1836. Rare, choice patina, about extremely fine.)"
Five different thalers were struck in Saxony in 1836: KM 1120 (regular issue for king Anton), 1121 (mining thaler for king Anton), 1139 (commemorative for Anton's death), 1141 (Friedrich August II, interrupted obverse legend, shown here) and 1142 (Friedrich August II, continuous obverse legend).
