This specimen was lot 40384 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1648-CR. Johann Georg I. NGC MS-65. Stunningly fresh, this Gem survivor displays intense luster in the fields with a touch of golden tone around the outer edges. Considering the premium appearance, a coin that could have easily received an even higher grade. Truly an item fit for a world-class collection!" This coin was issued by the elector of Saxony in 1638-56 and is one of the common thalers of the seventeenth century.
