Künker sale 263, lot 1260

This specimen was lot 1260 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €440 (about US$568 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-WEISSENFELS, HERZOGTUM August, 1656-1680. Reichstaler 1663, Halle oder Magdeburg, auf die Grundsteinlegung der Schloßkirche von Weissenfels. Leichte Korrosionsspuren, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weissenfels, August, 1656-80, thaler of 1663, Halle or Magdeburg mint, on the groundbreaking of the castle church of Weissenfels. Lightly pitted, very fine.)"

This is the most common seventeenth century thaler of Saxe-Weissenfels, a branch of the Albertines that lasted 1656-1746.
