The first specimen was lot 4340 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,440 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, SACHSEN-EISENACH, HERZOGTUM, Friedrich III. von Gotha, 1741-1755, als Administrator. Reichstaler 1755, Eisenach, auf die 200-Jahrfeier des Augsburger Religionsfriedens. Mit Randschrift. Slg. Merseb. 3236 und 4114. Feine Patina, leichte Justierspuren, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Eisenach, Frederick III of Gotha, 1741-55, as administrator, thaler of 1755, Eisenach mint, on the bicentennial of the peace of Augsburg, with edge lettering. Fine patina, light adjustment marks, about extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 31103 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[2] noted, "Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Friedrich III Taler 1755 S//FS MS65 NGC, Gotha mint, KM297, Dav-2720. Struck to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the religious peace of Augsburg. A type we have not encountered in over a decade, the finest certified across grading companies, no less. Undergirded by generous original luster that distracts from dispersed weakness and adjustment marks on the obverse, toned in a variety of slate, teal, and champagne hues. Ex. Peak Collection (UBS Gold & Numismatics Auction 74, January 2008, Lot 232). From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." Altho the auctioneers listed this lot under Saxe-Eisenach, that dynasty lasted only 1671-1741. We have joined the SCWC in filing this rare type under Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, the result of the merger between Saxe-Eisenach and Saxe-Weimar. The new state survived until World War One.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.80-29.33 g, 41.5 mm diameter, the first specimen 29,28 g.

Catalog reference: KM 77, Dav-2720; Koppe 521; Slg. Opitz 3045.
