Sincona sale 22, lot 1644

This specimen was lot 1644 in Sincona sale 22 (Zurich, May 2015), where it sold for 175 CHF (about US$220 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Sachsen-Altenburg, Herzogtum, Johann Philipp, Friedrich, Johann Wilhelm, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1603-1625 Taler 1612. Saalfeld. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, John Philip, Frederick, John William and Frederick William II (1603-25), thaler of 1612, Saalfeld mint, very fine.)"

The SCWC lists many different thalers for Saxe-Altenburg. This type is noted from 1612-13 and is common. The last of the brothers died in 1639.
