Sincona sale 38, lot 1584

This specimen was lot 1584 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$1,919 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Carlo Alberto, 1831-1849 100 Lire 1840. Genova. Selten. Nur 1003 Exemplare geprägt. Fast vorzüglich. Kleine Randfehler. (kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Albert, 1831-49, one hundred lire of 1840, Genoa mint. Rare. Only 1003 pieces struck. About extremely fine. Minor rim nicks.)"

This type was struck 1832-42 at Turin and Genoa (shown here) and superseded the gold eighty lire of the previous reign. Tho not rare, it is expensive.
