Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 21144
Sardinia SB120-21144r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21144 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sardinia. 20 Lire, 1824-P. Genoa Mint; mm: Anchor. Carlo Felice. PCGS Genuine--Gouged, EF Details Gold Shield. Despite the "gouge" designation, this piece in actuality exhibits lighter marks and scuffs than indicated in the details, namely at the base of the king's neck and to the right of the branch and shield on the reverse. Moderately circulated, this example would serve as an excellent budget type for this rather RARE issue." This type was struck at Turin and Genoa (shown here) 1821-31. While not rare, it is scarce, particularly in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 2,394.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 21 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Fr-1137; KM-118.2.
