Sardinia (1516-56) 2 reales
This specimen was lot 2168 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €290 (about US$413 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, SARDAIGNE, Charles Quint (1516-1556), AR 2 reali, Cagliari. D/ B. couronné à d. A g., deux annelets. R/ Croix dans un quadrilobe orné. Rare Troué. Griffes au droit. Beau à Très Beau/Très Beau. (Italy, Sardinia, Charles V, 1516-56, undated silver two reales, Cagliari mint. Obverse: crowned bust to right, two annulets behind; reverse: cross in an ornate amulet. Rare, pierced, scratches on the obverse, Fine - Very Fine/Very Fine.)"
Altho the Spanish ruled Sardinia for four centuries until 1708, the coinage of that time is rare and poorly documented.
