This truly fantastic proof set is comprised of magnificent looking representative of these types. Each piece meticulously engraved with expressive portraits, crisp devices and hard flashy fields. The frosty designs stand out against the reflective surfaces offering a nice cameo effect. The appearance of each piece is further elevated by the gorgeous rich brown patina and beautiful mottled iridescent coloration of cobalt and magenta. These highly attractive special issues seldom appear on the market as individual pieces while complete sets are few and far between. Serious consideration should be given by potential bidders for the opportunity to acquire this EXTREMELY RARE and fabulous set. Accompanying the coins is what appears to be the case of issue, however the top is broken."

Sarawak, now a part of Malaysia, was once ruled by a dynasty of white rajahs ending with Charles V. Brooke (ruled 1917-46). James Brooke (r. 1841-68) founded the line but his coinage comprises only quarter cents, half cents and cents of 1863. The region was devastated by Japanese occupation during World War Two, so the rajah abdicated in favor of direct British rule.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM-1; Prid-62A; SS-3.
