This specimen was lot 3579 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAMUDRA-PASAI: Abdallah II, ca.1475-1513, AV kupang, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Jürgen M. Wilmes Collection." The kupang was a small gold coin introduced in the thirteenth century in the sultanate of Samudra-Pasai. Half and double kupangs exist. The state of Samudra-Pasai was conquered by the sultan of Aceh in the early sixteenth century and its independence terminated. Samudra-Pasai eventually lent its name to the island of Sumatra, where it is located.
