Salzburg 1751 ducat Fr-860
This specimen was lot 3103 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €725 (about US$937 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Andreas Jakob von Dietrichstein, 1747-1753. Dukat 1751. GOLD. Winz. Henkelspur, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Andrew Jacob of Dietrichstein, 1747-53, ducat of 1751. Small mount mark, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1747-52 and is very scarce. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
