Sincona sale 18, lot 3155

This specimen was lot 3155 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 600 (about US$791 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Guldiner 1553. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Germany, archbishopric of Salzburg, guldiner of 1553, very fine to good very fine.)"

Davenport lists this type for 1540, 1546 and 1549-54. It is expensive compared to the common thalers of the seventeenth century but is more available than other issues of archbishop Ernst of Bavaria.
