Jean Elsen sale 133, lot 1355

This specimen was lot 1355 in Jean Elsen sale 133 (Brussels, June 2017), where it sold for €550 (about US$727 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIE, U.R.S.S. (1917-1991), Platine 150 roubles, 1977. Jeux olympiques de Moscou. Ecrin et certificat. Flan poli. (Russia, Soviet Union, 1917-91, platinum 150 rubles of 1977, for the Moscow Olympic Games, with box and certificate, proof.)"

This denomination was introduced in 1977 to sell platinum commemoratives and was used on occasion until 1991. The issues now sell for bullion.

Recorded mintage: 9,910 plus an unknown number of proofs.

Specification: 15.54 g, 0.999 fine platinum, .500 troy oz APW.
