This specimen was lot 52564 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,740. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Rubles, 1870-CNB HI. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander II. PCGS MS-61. Surpassed in the PCGS census by just four examples, this robust and extremely brilliance example radiates with great appeal and a delightful olive nature to the gold." This type is listed for 1859-85 and is fairly common in circulated condition. In 1886, the standard was revised to match the French twenty francs d'or, resulting in a weight reduction to .186 troy oz.
