Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 32254

This specimen was lot 32254 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Gold Kopek Novodel, ND ("1682-96") (ca. 19th Century). Ivan V & Peter I "the Great". NGC MS-65. A stunning later issue in gold, this novodel presents tremendous brilliance and flair, with great color and luster radiating throughout." A novodel was a later restrike made for collectors. This corrupt practice was not restricted to Russia but came to its full flower there.
