Steve Album Auction 52, lot 2696

This specimen was lot 2696 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $54. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLISH LIVONIA: Sigismund III, 1587-1629, AR schilling, Riga, [16]17, a pleasing lustrous mint state example, PCGS graded MS62." This schilling or solidus was struck for Sigismund of Poland 1587-1622 in many varieties. Riga and Livonia were seized by Sweden from Poland in 1621 and retained by them until their loss to Russia in 1721. Numista notes that one thaler was 108 schilling.
