Sincona sale 43, lot 2146

This specimen was lot 2146 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,387 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Reuss, Ältere Linie, Obergreiz, Heinrich XIII. 1800-1817 Konventionstaler 1807. Saalfeld. Sehr selten. Nur 300 Exemplare geprägt. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. NGC AU55. (Germany, county of Reuss, older line in Obergreiz, Henry XIII, 1800-17, convention thaler of 1807, Saalfeld mint. Very rare. Only 300 pieces struck, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This rare type was struck in small numbers 1807 and 1812. Another, similar thaler also exists (KM 93) with the engraver's name DOELL on the truncation of the bust.
