Steve Album sale 51, lot 2692

This specimen was lot 2692 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $72. The catalog description[1] noted, "RATLAM: Ranjit Singh, 1864-1893, AE paisa, "VS1947" (=1890), official World War II restrike of 1942-45, PCGS graded MS63 RB, ex Solar Collection." Ratlam was a princely state between Rajputana and Gwalior and neighbor to Sailana. This paisa comes in two varieties; a thick version (KM 24), struck in the nineteenth century, and the restrike shown here, made during World War Two. Haruman, the Hindu monkey god, appears on the obverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: the originals were 5.7 g, copper, 23.5 mm diameter; the restrikes were 2.7 g.
