Steve Album sale 54, lot 2426

This specimen was lot 2426 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $30. The catalog description[1] noted, "CROATIA: Ragusa, Republic, AE soldo, 1793, RAGVSII CIVITAS around haloed bust of Saint Vlaho above wall of bricks // Christ flanked by designs within circle of stars, crudely struck as usual, VF." This type was struck intermittently 1678-1797 and is not rare in worn condition. In the eighteenth century, Ragusa was an independent city-state surrounded and protected by the Ottoman Empire, which ruled most of the Balkans. Ragusa was occupied by French troops in 1805 and annexed by Austria in 1814. One tallero was 360 soldi. Sveti Vlaho = St. Blaise, patron of the city.
