This specimen is one of a type struck for the Portuguese colonies in India in 1935 only. Once extensive, Portuguese dominions had dwindled by the 1800's to the enclaves of Goa, Diu and Damao. The rupia of 1947 (KM 27) was only 0.500 fine silver while the rupia of 1952 (KM 29) was copper-nickel, in keeping with the issues of neighboring British India. Issues up to 1952 were based on the rupee and struck at the British controlled mints of Bombay and Calcutta.
Recorded mintage: 300,000.
Specification: 12 g, 0.917 fine silver, .353 troy oz ASW.
