Poland 1834-SP PD 20 zlotych
This specimen was lot 72086 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 20 Zlotych (3 Rubles), 1834-CNB NA. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I of RUSSIA. NGC EF-45. A wholesome, problem-free example from the period of Russian domination, this lightly handled piece retains some hints of brilliance and still dazzles based upon its elevated state of preservation." This issue was struck 1834-39 while Poland was under Russian rule (1815-1918). Twenty złotych equaled three rubles. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850. The initials ПД are for mintmaster Paul Danilov.
