Poland 1622 18 groszy
This specimen was lot 24670 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $?. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Ort (18 Groszy - 1/4 Taler), 1622. Sigismund III Vaza (1587-1632). PCGS VF-30 Secure Holder." This type is listed in the SCWC for 1620-28. The kingdom of Poland came under the rule of the king of Sweden, Sigismund III, in 1587. He converted to Roman Catholicism to accept the Polish crown, which caused the Swedish diet to depose him. He invaded Sweden in an attempt to reclaim his throne but was unsuccessful. The expenses of the war damaged and weakened the Polish monarchy, but the main source of Polish weakness was the greed and selfishness of the Polish nobility.
