Pitcairn Islands 1989 250 dollars
The first specimen was lot 71480 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "PITCAIRN ISLANDS. 250 Dollars, 1989. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Struck to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Mutiny on the Bounty." The second specimen was lot 1548 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,188. The catalog description[2] noted, "Pitcairn Islands. 250 Dollars, 1989. HMAV Bounty ship. Only 2,500 struck of this one year type. NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo." This NCLT was accompanied by KM 5 (5 oz silver $50) and KM 4 (copper-nickel dollar). All Pitcairn issues are NCLT's, as the islanders (who number less than 100) use New Zealand money.
