Pfalz 1721-IGW ducat Fr-2026
This specimen was lot 2478 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,700 (about US$5,090 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PFALZ, KURFÜRSTENTUM Karl Philipp, 1716-1742. Dukat 1721, Heidelberg. GOLD. Winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz, Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 100, Osnabrück 2005, Nr. 418. (electorate of the Palatinate, Charles Philip, 1716-42, ducat of 1721, Heidelberg mint. Light hairlines, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck again in 1726. Both dates are rare. The other ducat of 1721 (KM 218) is very rare. The Rhineland was devastated during the Thirty Years War and Electoral Pfalz never recovered its former prosperity.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,50 g.
