Peru 1985 50 intis
This specimen was lot 39503 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 50 Intis, 1985-LIMA. Lima Mint. PCGS MS-65. The sole certified example in the PCGS population. This denomination appears never to have circulated, likely due to the rapid devaluation of the Inti currency reform." The inti was introduced in 1985 and was worth 1,000 soles. In 1990, it was replaced by the nuevo sol at the rate of 1 nuevo sol = 1,000,000 intis. Coins were introduced in 1985 in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 centimos plus 1 and 5 intis. All coins featured Navy Admiral Miguel Grau. This fifty intis is likely a pattern. The coins are demonetized.
