This type, issued from Lima 1984 only, reflects the accelerating pace of inflation which devastated Peru in the late 1970's and 1980's. The ten soles denomination was first issued as a copper-nickel coin in 1969 (KM 253) and steadily shrank until its termination in 1984. The bust is of Admiral Grau, victor of a naval battle against the Chileans in which he was killed.
Recorded mintage: 30,000,000.
Specification: brass, plain edge.
Catalog reference: KM 287.
